Accounting and Sports: Finding Balance in Our Sportsfest 2025
Accountants who lead balanced lives balance the books better too.
That’s why, from April 26 to June 27, 2025, nearly 1,200 TOA Global team members competed in a variety of team and individual sports and games.
When you’re leading a busy accounting practice, the idea of organizing staff engagement programs can be a step too far. We’ve gladly taken on this challenge for our international clients, because we know from experience that programs like the annual sportsfest really do pay off.
More than a chance to play basketball, volleyball, badminton, or table tennis, the annual sportsfest gives TOA Global team members opportunities to strengthen connections while paying attention to fitness and wellbeing.
Strategic outsourced accounting services with 360° retention strategies can fuel the next stage of your business’ growth. Helps your offshore team build essential skills
All TOA Global team members receive a professional development plan, with courses designed to update their technical, accounting software and success (soft) skills.
What we’ve found is that the annual sportsfest gives the team fast-paced, real world opportunities to hone success skills such as decision-making, teamwork, time management, communicating about shared goals, and the value of practice.
Fosters camaraderie and belonging
It’s important for high-performing teams to support one another and to appreciate each other’s gifts.
Roy Yabillo, our Senior Change Manager–IT, is one of our high-performing colleagues. He’s a former Applied Statistics major who previously worked as a People Services Manager, leading and coaching team members to do their best.
He’s also quick to show appreciation for his team.
“This was my second time joining the basketball team,” said Roy. “I never thought that we had very competitive players, and that accountants and bookkeepers can play like professional players.”
Nicole Yvette Baquir, a Generalist Accountant for a North American firm, won the Most Valuable Player Award in women’s basketball and won the women’s singles badminton championship in TOA Global Cebu as well.
“This was my first sportsfest in TOA Global, and it was memorable because I got the chance to lead as the captain of the basketball team and also had my singles matches in badminton” to prepare for.
As a former student leader, Nicole relishes a challenge—and she’s a good representative of the kind of well-rounded, smart accounting talent we’ve found for innovative accounting practices in Canada and the United States.
Encourages your team to stay healthy
Like many knowledge workers, accountants spend a lot of time at their desks. Programs like the annual sportsfest encourage TOA Global’s team members to stay active.
Why is this important? About 7 out of every 10 adults need to do more to meet the World Health Organization’s recommended levels pf physical activity–that’s 150 to 300 minutes of moderate exercise per week and muscle strengthening activities on at least two days each week.
The sportsfest reminds the team to give themselves active time each week, and that’s supplemented by our Wellbeing Program all year round. That includes complimentary yoga, dance, meditation, and functional fitness classes that take place after shift.
We are delighted that the annual sportsfest remains one of the engagement programs TOA Global team members always look forward to.
Since 2013, TOA Global has connected 4,200+ accountants, auditors, and other professionals with 1,100+ international clients.
