What at first looks like a disadvantage, you can turn into a source of newfound strength. That’s one of the highlights Allana Santos shared about her three-year journey so far with TOA Global.
What led you to pursue a career in accounting and what has your journey looked like up to this point?
When I was in high school, I already knew that I was going to take up Accountancy. I knew that Accountancy could offer permanence, as there will always be a need for this expertise. Any company from the smallest to the largest will always need accounting and financial services, making this a stable field to work in.
And I was not wrong. At 24, I already found a permanent job, which I am very grateful for. I learn every day and I am happy with my job and with my client.
What do you enjoy most about your role with your client?
What I enjoy most about my role with my client is that she lets me explore how I can showcase my skills to get the jobs done. At the same time, she gives me more understanding and techniques. Through this, I have earned skills that prepare me for bigger roles.
What valuable skills have you gained through the training programs at TOA Global and how have they helped you work toward your career goals? Have you had access to such career-building before?
Not all companies offer free training for employees. And I am glad that TOA Global does. TOA Global offers a Professional Development Plan (PDP) that enables team members to grow their skills and achieve international certifications and accreditations through our Registered Training Organization, Ab² Institute of Accounting.
What are some of the facilities you have access to at work that you find the most valuable?
Of course, for me, the most important facility inside TOA Global is the pantry with its free unlimited coffee.
What have your favorite experiences been with the client you’ve worked with?
My client is eager to help me and my teammate finish our certification. She calls us weekly to guide us and to make sure we are on track with the training. Also, receiving a birthday gift from my client is one of the most memorable experiences for me.
In what ways do you feel you’ve grown since you became a TOA Global team member?
I came from a big team at my previous company. And it was a big adjustment for me when I moved to TOA Global because I was alone, and I had no teammates at first.
But what I had thought was a downside turned out to be my strength. I learned to strive independently and now I can say that I became more confident. I feel glad that my client entrusts me to train our new team members.
What do you value the most about the team you work with now?
Open communication and a strong work ethic are the two principles we have in our team. I value these a lot as I believe these are what push us to go through.
What are your aspirations?
My career aspirations are to continue working in my current field…I would also love to mentor new accountants/bookkeepers and motivate them to achieve their goals in life.
What motivates and inspires you?
Success motivates me to do a good job. Knowing that dedication and perseverance will help me attain greater professional accomplishment is what keeps me going.
What do you look forward to every day?
Every day, my goal is to assist my client and I am always looking forward to being able to finish my tasks on time.
What do you do in your spare time?
During my spare time, I work on the modules of my certification course. Sometimes, I also talk to my team for a few life updates.
