In the two years that Patricia has worked at TOA Global, she has grown both personally and professionally, and credits TOA Global for her continued development and growing skill set.
What led you to pursue a career in accounting and what has your journey looked like up to this point?
My career journey had its difficulties and complications, until some colleagues of mine shared with me their experiences as offshore accountants for an Australian accounting firm. I then made the decision to apply to TOA Global and, fortunately, was hired.
I’ve continued to learn and grow, and I now have the opportunity to lead a team. It is a challenging role, but I cannot wait to take it on.
What do you enjoy most about your role with your client?
I was hired as an Intermediate Accountant two years ago. One of the questions I was asked during the interview was, “5 years from now, where do you see yourself?” My answer was, “I knew from my heart that I wanted to lead people and I wanted to take on a team lead role at your company.” Then, before my second-year anniversary, I was rewarded with the role, and I am so grateful for the trust and support that I have been given since I took on my leadership role.
What valuable skills have you gained through the training programs at TOA Global and how have they helped you work towards your career goals?
I was lucky enough to work with a client that enrolled me in TOA Global courses like BAS and Payroll Training. It has helped me hone my understanding of Australian accounting and taxation. These certifications serve as an investment in my continuing education.
What are some of the facilities you have access to at work that you find to be the most valuable?
I love the break-out room. Looking at a monitor for eight hours a day can really strain your eyes, so during my breaks I go to the breakout room to refresh and relax both my eyes and my mind.
What have your favorite experiences been with the client you’ve worked with?
Our morning team huddles on Mondays and Fridays are the best. Every Friday, my client asks us what we are looking forward to for the weekend and it’s like a meeting between family and friends. As a team, we get excited for Monday meetings, where we talk about our weekends, and it usually sets a positive tone for the week ahead. Also, a part of our team culture is “Stronger Together”, so we look after each other whatever the situation may be, good or bad.
In what ways do you feel you’ve grown since you became a TOA Global team member
I’ve gained more responsibility and expertise and grown in my current role. I am always open to learning new things and continuing to grow personally and professionally.
What do you value the most about the team you work with?
Our team’s open communication is the most valuable to me. A good team allows team members to communicate openly and share their thoughts and ideas. Our open communication lessens misunderstandings and improves the team’s overall performance.
What are your aspirations?
I aspire to keep growing in my role and to develop my leadership and team management skills.
What motivates and inspires you?
My family. I have two kids and they are my source of joy. I strive every day to be a mom that they can look up to, a mom that they are proud of, and a mom that always does the best for them.
What do you look forward to every day?
My team. I always feel respected, supported and valued, which makes my job easier. In return, I offer support and share my knowledge.
What do you do in your spare time?
Cooking! I feel so creative whenever I cook. I love to taste and explore different cuisines and learn new cooking techniques.
